Outstanding design, materials, fit and finish. Top quality in every detail.
Costly but worth it! I’m a manufacturing engineer by trade and I can’t think or a way they could have made these any better! The solid metal clamps are so much nicer than the plastic ones found on most others. Everything is comfortable and solid. For local adventures, i prefer my bamboo walking stick. But unfortunately, this is much too big to take along for any kind of travel. For overall portability, lightness, strength, and reliability, the Black Diamond Alpines are fantastic!

Excellent trekking poles.
Excellent trekking poles. Very light and solid. Hight adjustment is super simple. Also easy swap on the tips from original (ice and snow) to rubber (for pavement). Do not see any issues so far.

Totally outstanding!!
My old poles got the job done but I did not know what I was missing. The Black Diamonds are lighter. The height adjustment is so much easier with the flip clips. The wrist straps do not slip out after getting sweaty. The cork grips feel so much better and dry very quickly and are not slippery when wet. They cost much more than my old poles but very worth it to me.

Love them!
These are sturdy and lightweight for taking everywhere. Only thing that would make them better if they collapsed just a bit more as they are still a little long to put on my small camelback pack.

Nice Replacement Pair
Really liked the Black Diamond Z-Fold poles that I’ve been using for several years but they finally broke after a thousand miles. These are a great replacement and have adjustable length that works well with my trekking pole tent.

Great poles but here are a few helpful fixes
I agree with the issues people have found with these poles. But I decided to keep the poles because they are lightweight and sturdy. I did make a few fixes which should be helpful. The bottom section does not clamp tight enough so that it stay’s retracted. I have seen this same issue with other high end Black Diamond poles so I made this simple fix. On the bottom section I wound a piece of green duct ape just thick enough so that the clamp would close snugly and the poles would collapse and hold firm without rattling around. As far as the allen wrench. I would hate to lose it or have to search for it in my pack so this is what I did—it should have come in a very small zip lock bag. Take the two upper sections of the pole apart by just opening the locking mechanism and pull them apart. Wind the zip lock bag around the allen wrench with the allen wrench inside the bag and stuff it into the top pole (the one with the handle). Now just put the poles back together and the allen wrench will always be with the pole. When you need to take it out you’ll have to tap it into the palm of your hand several times but the little packet with the allen wrench should drop down where you can pull it out. Be sure to remember which pole it’s it. Hope this is useful.

Strong
These poles worked perfect. They are easy to adjust and never gave me any trouble. One complaint is that the locks near the tips donât lock down when poles are fully retracted. It never caused a problem, but would have liked knowing I could lock them down.

Los bastones no funcionan para la bajaba; no soportan las bajadas y se corren.

I received a defective product: the clips tightening the height of the poles arrived dysfunctional. I had to ship them back. Bad (product quality, shipment, reimbursement) experience in general, which explains the 1-star rating. I ordered another similar product but never obtained a delivery date and had to cancel the order after 10-11 days.
